Norco is a unique community in Southern California. Its equestrian lifestyle offers a combination of family and community that is reminiscent of the Old West.  Norco is located in the western section of Riverside County and still maintains its rural atmosphere.  It is approximately fifty miles southeast of Los Angeles.  The population of the area served by the school has grown significantly over the past few years.  Norco, and its sister city, Corona, has 8.6% and 47% growth respectively over the past ten years.

Originally an agricultural area, Norco has changed to a residential community supported by industrial, commercial, and agricultural operations.  Norco offers a full range of housing, from affordable to executive, and both feature half-acre minimum lots. The current data available from the city of Norco indicates that the average home value for existing homes was $317,000 and new homes was $401,000 in 2001.  The average median income is $69,974.  Although Norco is generally considered a commuter town, the major employers include the Corona-Norco Unified School District (4,996), the California Rehabilitation Center (1,200), the Naval Weapons Warfare Center (850), HCI, Inc (telecommunications, 600), DyneCorp (data processing, 325), Norco Ranch (egg products, 250), Target (210), SeGi (recreational vehicle doors and windows, 150), Riverside Community College (130), and the City of Norco (90).

Norco is a city of neighborhoods and is considered a safe place to live. The crime rate is well below the national average in all areas except burglaries and vehicle thefts.  There are over 88 miles of horse trails, limited sidewalks, and horse waterers and hitching posts can be found at many of the local establishments – all in a town with the motto of “City living in a rural atmosphere.” Residents take an active interest in the city government.

Norco, California (Horsetown USA), opened a neighborhood high school of 1,000 students in 1967.  Now, Norco High School is one of five comprehensive high schools in the Corona-Norco Unified School District in Riverside County.  The student body comes from Norco, some areas of Corona, Mira Loma, and Eastvale. The community supports Norco High School’s strong commitment to academic and career technical education.
